Ripped Jeans Or Ripped Brains!

You walk into the metro, you feel confident in your baggy shirt and that new pair of ripped jeans, for which, by the way you saved money by cutting down on those amazing momos and noodles.

What you realise is you’ve missed the ladies coach and have entered the general one where men begin to give you the weirdest of all looks. You wonder why? You didn’t ask them for their seat, neither did you steal something from them.

One guy from the corner starts giving you that creepy eye and one old aged uncle makes a face of disappointment as if you are his daughter and you scored way less than Sharma Ji’s son. And then it strikes you! The moment of truth! This new pair of jeans for which you almost died is the little culprit here.

You have walked into the patriarchy with the biggest weapon my dear friend, your lovely pair of jeans. The small little places it is ripped from is where the ammunition will be fired from and oh these men are scared!

You feel a little uncomfortable with all the heads you are turning for the wrong reasons (not wrong at all) but gradually you start feeling better when you spot just another girl with that uncomfortable smile wearing a similar pair of ripped jeans.

You begin to wonder, what’s so scary about something so small? Why do men have to give those ugly looks, even the ones who have entered the metro in their worst pair of shorts and the ones that leave 3 buttons of their shirt open to show their pumped-up chest? Well, the reason goes as far as till the 80s.

When Madonna wore such a pair of jeans, the crowd went crazy calling her all sorts of names. People considered such dressing wild. But with the passage of time, different types of outfits came into fashion and women thought if men can walk around wearing a non-existent vest and shorts, so can women. And this very thought upsets men- how dare a woman tries what we try?

You’ve heard your elder brother say – “hey your jeans are torn” when you’ve purposely ripped it to get that cool comfortable look, and thought to yourself “How am I even his sister?”

Women from traditional and orthodox families are taught not to even look at such a pair of jeans because a pair of jeans is capable of bringing shame to the family, yes you read that right.

What should rather be taught is how the ripped mindset is what creates the issue. The ‘sanskaar’ of a woman are judged on the basis of the jeans she wears and not on the basis of the work she does.

Of course, a mother who wears ripped jeans doesn’t know how to care for her family, a teacher who wears ripped jeans does not know how to teach, the CEO who wears ripped jeans doesn’t know how to run her business and the teenager who wears them is a ‘rebel’ and ‘indecent’ human being.

Let me tell you girls, the true power of feminism lies in those jeans that the men are so afraid of!

Wear them, rip them further and wear them to even traditional events such as Indian weddings where more men can secretly stare at you (because they know you look good) or men can come up to you and tell you that “Ripped jeans in not a decent item of clothing” because decency lies in the clothes you wear, not in the mindset, not in one’s actions towards mankind or not in one’s education, but definitely in those pair of jeans.

Post Script: I was exploring latest ripped jeans on various platforms. And I found this masterpiece. Well I’m speechless, that’s all I can say right now. Share your comments and clap!
